Description
IMPORTANT:  This Advertiser has requested that applicants MUST be National Residents / Valid Work Permit-holders.  Other applicants need not apply.

We are seeking an experienced Ecologist (grade Senior) to work on a range of ecological projects across the UK, particularly South-East England, requiring a mix of well-developed technical field and office-based skills.
Currently the team is delivering a wide range of project work: from delivery of Ecological Impact Assessments for new settlements (including full suite of ecological surveys); to survey and assessment of multiple sites for Local Planning Authorities to inform planning policy (currently in Hillingdon and Basingstoke); to surveying open spaces to inform the development of restoration proposals and HLF applications. Current survey work includes habitats and vegetation, bats, dormouse, reptiles, badger.
The role will require you to plan, prepare for, supervise and where appropriate carry out a range of ecological surveys, including habitat survey across a range of lowland and upland habitats as well as protected species surveys. Data analysis, coordination of sub-consultants, quality assurance and high quality reporting are also integral to this role.
You will have the opportunity to get involved in all stages of project development, seeing it through from tendering through to completion. We expect our ecologists to participate in all aspects of the work carried out, particularly the generation of new business, client liaison and staff management, as well as continuing to develop field skills at all levels. The post is based in London but there may be opportunities to work with LUC teams in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Bristol.

About you:

You will have a relevant first degree and possibly a post-graduate qualification. You will be a confident and competent field ecologist with established expertise in at least one taxonomic group, including strong botany skills and experience of Phase 1 Habitat and NVC surveys.
Protected species survey licence-holders are preferred, in particular for bats.
The role requires competency in and familiarity with UK ecological issues more generally, including relevant planning policy and legislation.
You must have extensive experience in project management, including survey design and survey team management, project financial management and the delivery of Ecological Impact Assessments, research reports and EPS licences.
The nature of this work means a full driving licence is required. Also suitable candidates will be physically fit and feel comfortable working in remote environments and lone working.
Full membership of CIEEM is desirable but not essential.
In addition to the right qualifications and experience, you will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues and clients and an appetite for diverse projects.

To apply please email your CV and a covering letter, quoting reference: 2015-16 to Helen Ash, HR Manager at: HR@landuse.co.uk
Closing date for applications: Friday 7 August 2015.
