King’s College, London MA Environment Politics & Globalisation 2009-2010
My master’s course has dealt with the in-depth and critical awareness of the politics and geographies shaping environments at a range of interrelated and ever shifting scales. Module included:
- Practising Social Research; Critical Approaches to Ecotourism; Environmental Science and Policymaking; Environmental Internship.
- 12,000 word dissertation titled ‘An investigation into the impacts of two-tier governance on local district sustainable community strategies.’
Skills gained include:
- Time management in ensuring the multiple projects were completed to set deadlines. For example I recently completed two 2,000 word written coursework projects and prepared for a group presentation that had the same deadline date.
- An understanding of the main opportunities and constraints acting on the policy-making (and policy-influencing) capacities of environmental organisations.
- Practical skills in knowledge transfers examining the effectiveness of written and oral presentations, reports, workshops and seminars.
Loughborough University 2:1 BA Hons Degree in Politics with a minor 2006-2009
My undergraduate degree dealt with the key concepts and research methods in political science and an overall understanding of governments at the national and international levels. My minor subject was in human geography which dealt with key aspects of sustainability. Modules included:

Skills gained include:
- Research and project management, through ensuring my 12,000 word dissertation titled ‘The Italian Judiciary’s battle against political corruption since the 1990s’ was researched, written and delivered on time.
- Analytical and conceptual skills from a module titled ‘political analysis’ which examined different qualitative and quantitative research methods.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Sustainability Assistant in the Sustainability Unit at Lambeth Borough Council, London Jan 2010-Current
- Helped collate and analyse statistical data for the National Indicator 185 2009/10 submission, where I developed useful Excel and administrative skills.
- Assisting in the Council’s Carbon Reduction Commitment registration and data collection by corresponding with School’s within the borough to make sure the correct data is submitted.
- Organized an awards event to celebrate local sustainable projects.
- Helped raise awareness on how to become more sustainable across the council, through arranging meeting with senior managers in different departments.
- Developed a presentation template on the overall objectives and how to achieve them to help raise awareness.
- Conducted administrative requirements for the unit especially for Carbon Reduction Officer.

- Member of the bar team, serving food and drink to customers whilst looking after general upkeep of area.
- Helped out with stock control.
- Good communication skills were expected to meet the high standards of the pub.

INTERESTS AND ACTIVITIES
- World Challenge (July 2004): Activities included climbing to the summit of Mount Roraima (9,200 feet) and helping build a school for a village in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest. During the trip I had to lead for part of the expedition, where motivation and being aware of cultural differences and social needs were essential.
- Member of Royce Hall Social Committee (2006-2007): Helped arrange and manage social events for hall. Negotiating the best deals with local businesses and communicating with other members was vital.
- Travelling: This has given me an insight into other cultures and traditions and how economies and lifestyles exist in different countries and continents. During my gap year, I travelled throughout South East Asia, Australasia, and South America and recently completed a cycling trip around Ireland. Also I am a keen sportsman, playing for a local cricket team and captaining the development team.
